  • Day 5 of Beginning My Walk with Christ

    I didn't write yesterday, so here's yesterday's and today's blog.

Yesterday's reading was Leviticus 20:7-27; Mostly about sexual sins and punishment.

Yesterday's devotion tells the story from Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington.  Here are the questions asked.

    • God's covenant with Noah is a promise to humankind as a whole.  What can we learn about God's love for us from this promise?
I think we can learn that God made this promise because He knows that we will sin and do things we shouldn't, but He created us and He loves us and does not want to destroy His creations again.  But we should also try to do our best to do the right thing.
    • Given the above situation, do you thing the former slave went too far to keep his word?

I think the slave knew that he made a promise and he wanted to keep his promise because that would make him a better man than the undeserving slave owner.  He was probably more at peace with his freedom knowing that he kept that promise.
    • Have you ever kept a promise even when it cost you?

I can't remember any specific time when keeping a promise was an inconvienence to me, but I do my best to not make promises that I know I may not be able to keep.

And I'm moving today, so today's blog will have to wait till later today, once I get settled in.

  • Day 4 of Beginning My Walk with Christ

Today's reading assignment was Leviticus 5:14-19, "The Guilt Offering"

    Today's devotion asked these questions:

    • What does it mean to bear God's signature? Explain how this shapes who you are.

Bearing God's signature means that He created me to be a certain way.  He created me as worthy of His love.  This shapes who I am because, if I act as a child of God and do the things He wants me to, others will see the value He sees in me.
    • How do our own circumstances and other people try to devalue us?

Sometimes we are tricked into believing we are worth less than we are because of the things people say or the way people treat us, or even our situations in life.  There are many ways society can makes us feel that we are of no value.
    • What does bearing "God's signature" say about you?  What about how other people see you?

Bearing God's signature means that I am of value to Him.  It means that I am great because I was created by Him.  If I believe this and act as though it is true, by being the person that God wants me to be, other people will see my value, too.

  • Day 3 of Beginnning My Walk with Christ

Today's reading assignment was Exodus 20:1-17: The Then Commandments.
I think this was beneficial to read, because most of us can name at least some of the ten commandments, but when you read them, you are reminded of them, giving them more presence in your life.  Today I will probably encounter a situation and think, "Wait, God wants me to do this..." and it will be easier to make the right choice because I was so recently reminded of what God wants from me.

Today's devotion came with a story about a man named Andy, whose wife was dying in the hospital.  Andy's father-in-law critcized Andy for praying and told him he should instead "come to his senses" because he doesn't have time for "nonsense."

These are the questions asked in today's devotion:

    • Although Adam and Eve received their orders straight from God, when the seprent challenged Eve, she wavered in her faith in God and became vulnerable to Satan's temptation.  Do you think Satan was attacking Andy's vulnerable faith through the words of his father-in-law?

I believe Satan was trying to attack Andy's faith because he knew that Andy was at a point where he was feeling let down by God because even though he'd been praying for her, and others were praying for her, she was still going to die.  I think Satan would definitely want to tempt someone who was already feeling down.  It would be much easier for him to prevail if his target was doubting their faith even for the smallest part of a second.
    • Why does God allow Satan to inflict such emotional and spiritual damage on his people?

I think that God allows Satan to do this because he wants to either test, or strengthen our faith.  God teaches us to resist temptation by allowing us the opportunity to do so.  God does not want to give us a set of rules then force us to follow them.  He wants us to want to follow His rules.  By letting Satan tempt us, God is giving us the choice to do the right thing.  And Satan cannot inflict emotional and spiritual damage on us if we do not allow him to.
    • What areas of vulnerability in your life has Satan exploited in the past?  What steps can you take to prepare for Satan's attacks in the future?

Satan has attacked me in times when I'm feeling very vulnerable.  At times when I've lost faith in the people around me, I guess I should have just turned to my faith in God, but instead, I let Satan tempt me into losing all faith.  I feel that this journey that I'm on will help prepare me for Satan's attacks in the future.  It will be easy to fight back when I've developed a stronger relationship with Christ.

About Me

  • Well, I just bought a new bible and adopted a new plan to reconnect with a God that I've never really known. I'm searching for a relationship with Christ that will fill a void in my otherwise satisfactory life. What better time to start this journey than now, during my college years? Not only am I discovering myself, I am preparing for my future. I want God to be a part of this life he created.
